CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison men's golf was recognized by the North Coast Athletic Conference on Monday afternoon when sophomore Ben Scherman was named the NCAC Golfer of the Week following his individual title at the Virtues Fall Shootout this past weekend in Nashport.
Leading the Big Red to a second-place finish overall with a team score of 594, Scherman headlined DU's efforts after carding seven birdies during the final round of play, including four birdies on the back nine to finish with a new career-low round of 68 (-4) and a three-under-par 141 for the tournament to claim medalist honors. Sunday's 68 bested his previous career-low of 69 set during the second round of the Camp Lejeune Intercollegiate this past April in Wilmington, N.C.
A native of Wilmette, Ill., this also marks the second victory of Scherman's collegiate career after he tied for first place at the Nye Intercollegiate tournament this past April 13-14 in Wooster.
Scherman and the Big Red will close out their fall schedule next Monday and Tuesday, Oct. 28-29 when they travel to Greensboro, N.C. to compete in the O'Briant-Jensen Memorial Tournament hosted by Guilford College at the Sedgefield Country Club.
