Big Red 15th in Lax Magazine Preseason Poll

Chip Phillips and the Big Red were recognized by Lacrosse Magazine in it's preseason projections.
Chip Phillips and the Big Red were recognized by Lacrosse Magazine in it's preseason projections.

Denison men's lacrosse has high hopes for the upcoming 2014 season and the national media agrees.  Lacrosse Magazine's preseason power rankings placed the team at 15th in Division III. The Big Red returns eight starters from last year's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship squad.

Last season, the Big Red finished 13-3 and captured the NCAC regular season crown, but missed the NCAA postseason for the first time in eight years after a one goal loss in the conference tournament title game.  With their sights set on a return to the postseason, DU returns 91.3 percent of its points scored from last season, which is fourth most in the Lacrosse Magazine preseason top 15.

Denison will be led in 2014 by All-American long stick midfielder Austin Campbell, and senior attack Eddie Vita. Campbell, the 109th USILA All-American from Denison, became the first long stick middie in conference history to be named Player of the Year.  Campbell led the NCAC in caused turnovers with 30. He also paced the team with 59 ground balls.  Meanwhile, Vita was the Big Red's scoring leader with 28 goals and 19 assists.

The Big Red open its 2014 season on Feb. 15 when they host Mount St. Joseph at 1 p.m.
