GREENCASTLE, Ind. - Senior Brooks Davy tied a season-high with five goals and surpassed the 100 career goal milestone as 11th ranked Denison outscored DePauw 9-3 in the second half on their way to a 16-6 win on Saturday night at Reavis Stadium.
After the start of the game was pushed back due to lightning in the area, Denison outshot DePauw by 18 throughout the game, 39-21, and outscored the opposition 6-1 in the third quarter to pull away from the Tigers and take control in the final 30 minutes of action.
Leading 4-3 with 3:41 remaining in the first half, a faceoff win by Henry DeCamp turned into a ground ball for Patrick Lunt and gave possession to the Big Red. At the 2:46 mark, Davy connected with Jake Waxter for his first goal of the game and gave DU a two-goal advantage, 5-3.
In the final 2:03 of the half, Davy scored his third goal of the game on an assist from Peter Pittroff and Owen Armstrong found the cage from Sam Dyson as the Big Red used three straight goals to end the half and carried a 7-3 lead at the break.
Leading by four entering the third quarter, Denison hit the accelerator to open the frame when Pittroff assisted on back-to-back goals from Waxter and Davy, giving the Big Red a 9-3 lead with 9:47 left in the third.
Following DeCamp's second straight faceoff victory on the next play, freshman Michael Bomes tallied his first goal of the season less than 10 seconds later to extend DU's lead.
After DePauw's Dylan Garvey scored at the 7:39 mark, the Big Red scored the final three goals of the quarter, thanks to consecutive tallies from Spencer Butler and a man-up goal from Waxter to enter the fourth with the lead, 13-4.
Leading by as many as 11, 15-4, in the fourth, back-to-back goals from Steen Jorgensen trimmed the DePauw deficit to nine, but a man-up goal from Doug Godine with 15 seconds to play gave Denison the 10-goal advantage as they secured their third win of the season and first in conference play.
Davy finished with a six-point performance on five goals and one assist to lead the Big Red. He is the 18th player in Big Red history to score 100 goals in his career.
