GRANVILLE, Ohio – Following a 12-6 victory over Concordia Wisconsin on Wednesday, ninth-ranked Denison men's lacrosse advanced to the third round of the 2019 NCAA Division III Tournament where they will host Rhodes College on Saturday, May 11 at Piper Stadium.

The Big Red reached the third round of the national tournament after taking a 9-5 advantage into the second half against Concordia before adding three unanswered goals in the fourth from Brooks Davy and Jake Waxter to secure the win. Rhodes advanced to the Sweet 16 following a 22-9 victory over Illinois Wesleyan that resulted in a pair of three-goal performances from David Perez and Addison Mueller while Christian Cisneros led the way with five goals and two assists.

Saturday's tilt will be a rematch of when these two squads met on March 23 at St. Anne's Belfield in Charlottesville, Virgiana. The Big Red tallied a 16-10 victory over the Lynx thanks to Denison scoring seven of the last 10 goals of the game and Waxter, Davy, and Spencer Butler combining for 11 goals.

Denison and Rhodes have only played twice all-time with the Big Red winning both games dating back to 2018.

This mark's Denison's third-straight trip to the third round of the NCAA Tournament where they will play their 43rd tournament game since 1982.

The Big Red's dynamic offense continues to be driven by the program's all-time assists leader in Peter Pittroff. Sporting 104 points this season on 28 goals and a team-high 76 assists, Pittroff has contributed to the consistent scoring of Butler, Waxter, and Davy in 2019. Butler currently leads DU with 63 goals this season, only two goals away from tying his current school record of 65 set in 2017. He also needs seven more goals to break Denison's career scoring record set by Brady Burton (189). Davy has added 61 goals this season while Waxter checks in at 34.

Senior faceoff specialist Henry DeCamp added 17 faceoff victories and nine ground balls to his incredible season on Wednesday, sending his season total to 105 GBs and 198 wins at the faceoff X.

Posting a perfect 8-0 record in the Southern Athletic Association, Rhodes enters Saturday's game at 16-3 overall, including eight-straight wins to end the season. The Lynx are led by Matt Perez, Tyler Milwit, and Karl Van Blargan, who have each tallied 30 or more goals in 2019. Cisneros leads the team with 44 assists while adding 22 goals on the season.

The winner of Saturday's third round contest will play the winner of the Salisbury-Lynchburg third-round matchup on Wednesday, May 15.
