GRANVILLE, Ohio—After an 11-7 victory over Rhodes in the third round of the NCAA Tournament, No. 9 Denison will travel to Salisbury, Maryland for the NCAA Tournament Quarterfinals on Wednesday, May 15 at 7 p.m.  The Big Red and the Sea Gulls have become familiar foes in the NCAA Tournament in recent years.  This is the fourth times the two teams have faced off in either the quarterfinals or the semifinals since 2014.

In the quarterfinals in 2016, Denison suffered an 11-10 overtime loss to the Sea Gulls.  The following year, Denison and Salisbury squared off in the national semifinals with a trip to the national championship game on the line.  It was a one-goal game and despite five goals from Will Donohue, Salisbury edged Denison, 12-11.

Denison has played in 42 NCAA Tournament games since 1982 and the only team Denison has played more often in the NCAA postseason is Ohio Wesleyan (10 times).  This will be the eighth time Denison and Salisbury have played in the NCAA Tournament.

The Big Red features one of the most explosive offenses in the country.  Peter Pittroff is the distributor and recently became the program's all-time leader in assists as a junior.  He has 31 goals and 78 assists this season.  Spencer Butler is five goals away from becoming the program's all-time leader in goals scored.  He leads the team with 65 goals while Brooks Davy follows with 63 goals.

All-American FOGO Henry DeCamp is a critical piece to Denison's postseason dreams. After missing six games with an injury he has returned with a vengeance, winning 95-of-129 draws (.736) with 63 ground balls in five games.

A hot goalie is especially helpful this time of year and sophomore Reeves McKenney has not only settled into his role as the Denison netminder, but he is also flourishing.  Over the last five games, he has totaled 73 saves and a .619 save percentage.

Salisbury enters with a 21-2 record and a No. 2 national ranking.  They advanced to the quarterfinals by defeating No. 19 Lynchburg, 18-10 on Saturday night.  Winners of seven straight, the Sea Gulls are led in scoring by junior attackman Josh Melton (63 goals, 49 assists).  Five Salisbury players have scored 40 or more goals this season.  Brett Malamphy is winning 73 percent of his draws taken in 2019 and is 14th in the nation with 9.8 ground balls per game.

The game also features two of the most successful collegiate coaches in the history of the game.  Earlier this season, Denison head coach Mike Caravana joined the 300 career win club.  Salisbury head coach Jim Berkman is the game's winningest coach with 552 victories in 32 years on the sidelines.

This is Denison's fourth-straight NCAA Tournament appearance.  Since 2014, Denison has gone 10-4 in the NCAA Tournament while posting a 102-15 (.871) record highlighted by four seasons with 18 or more victories.  The winner of the Denison-Salisbury quarterfinal will advance to Sunday's Final Four contest against the winner of York-Cabrini at a site to be determined.

Salisbury will provide a live video broadcast of Wednesday's quarterfinal beginning at 6:45 p.m.  The Denison Sports Network will provide postgame highlights as well as photos and recaps after the game.
