UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio -- The Blue Streaks posted four, first-half goals on Sunday afternoon as John Carroll defeated the Denison men's soccer team, 6-1, at Don Shula Stadium in University Heights, Ohio.
Outshooting the Big Red 11-2 in the first half, JCU wasted no time in the scoring column as Evan Malpass scored the Blue Streak's first goal of the season just 51 seconds into the game, put DU in an early 1-0 deficit.
In the 16th minute, Jared Ianiro found Stephen Schutt for his first goal of the year as John Carroll extended their lead to 2-0. Goals from Brian Lutz and Mikey Burrington followed for the Blue Streaks as they carried a 4-0 lead into the second half.
In the second half, Denison capitalized on a goal from freshman Leo Herard in the 89th minute, but John Carroll added two additional goals in the final half to hand the Big Red their second loss of the season.
Herard and sophomore Lucas Lilley tied for the team-lead with two shots taken, while JCU's Mikey Burrington and Adriano Margiotta lead both sides with three shots on goal apiece.
In goal for DU, Dylan Brown and Colin Cramer each contributed one half of play for the Big Red, combining for seven saves. John Carroll's Liam McIntosh totaled four saves and played a full 90 minutes in goal for the Blue Streaks.
Denison will return to the pitch on Friday, September 7 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to take part in the Kiwanis Classic hosted by Wilmington College. The Big Red open with Adrian College on Friday afternoon at 5 p.m., before playing host Wilmington on Saturday night at 7:30 p.m.
