PITTSBURGH, Pa. -- Despite six top-two finishes, Denison men's swimming and diving, ranked No.1 nationally in the latest TYR/CSCAA Top 25 Division III Polls, fell to the University of Pittsburgh on Friday evening by a score of 192-101 at Trees Pool in Pittsburgh.

Zach Wagner led the Big Red with two first-place finishes in the 50 freestyle (20.87) and as a member of the 200 freestyle relay team with Kymani Senior, Kenny Fox and Matt McHugh who touched the wall first in 1:23.19. Wagner also finished second in the 200 medley relay (1:32.02) with Fox, Tiernan Foster-Smith, and Carson Clear, and landed in fifth place in the 100 freestyle with a time of 46.44.

Clear added DU's third first-place finish of the night when he clocked in at 23.53 in the 50 backstroke, and then tied for fourth with McHugh in the 50 butterfly with a time of 23.30. Fox checked in two spots faster than the pair, earning a second place finish with a 22.78, while Liam Marsden-Readford landed .19 seconds behind him with a 22.97 in third. Fox also logged a 50.90 in the 100 butterfly, well enough for third-place.

One of Denison's three second-place marks belonged to Foster-Smith, who finished the 100 breaststroke in 56.54 while taking fourth place in the 50 breaststroke with a time of 26.21. Stuart Hohm took home a pair of top-three finishes, landing in third in both the 300 freestyle (2:40.62) and 200 freestyle (1:41.80), with Mitch Williams adding a 54.13 in the 100 IM to also land in third.

Williams earned two more spots in the top-five after he finished in fifth place in the 500 freestyle with a 4:41.10 and the 300 freestyle, clocking in at 2:43.20. Junior Matt Hedman finished one spot ahead of Williams in both events, finishing both in fourth place with a 2:40.62 in the 300 free, and a 4:36.26 in the 500 free, while Bebe Wang landed just behind Williams in the 100 IM with a 54.19 in fourth. Wang also took third in the 100 backstroke with a 52.74 and finished just behind Jason Wesseling who touched the wall in 52.39 to place second.

In the diving competition, Liam McCullogh placed third in the one and three-meter dives, scoring 146.18 in the one-meter, and then 178.95 in the three-meter.

The Big Red will return to action on Saturday, Jan. 20 when they stay in Pittsburgh, Pa. to face off against Johns Hopkins University and host Carnegie Mellon University at 1 p.m.
