CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind.--  Denison opened competition at the 2019 NCAA Division II Diving Regionals.  On Friday, finals took place in the women's 1-meter and men's 3-meter dives.

Denison was led by junior Allison Fitzgerald who placed third out of 28 divers on the women's 1-meter.  She totaled an 11-dive score of 424.05, trailing only Chicago's Agnes Lo (444.20) and Elizabeth Cron (437.20).

Naomi Clayton and Maddie Stauss followed in seventh and eighth place, respectively followed by Emma Weber in 12th place.

Fitzgerald, who placed fifth in the nation on the 1-meter board at last year's NCAA Division III Championship, posted her highest score on her eighth dive, a forward 2 ½ somersault tuck (105C) that landed her a score of 46.80.

Clayton came within fourth points of sixth place after her 11-dive total of 404.65.  Clayton's best dive came on her 11th and final dive, a back 1 ½ somersault pike (203B) that ended with a score of 44.85.

Making her first appearance at the NCAA Diving Regional, Stauss finished eighth with a score of 396.50.  Stauss rebounded with scores of 41.40 and 44.85 on her sixth and seventh dives to move back up the standings.

Weber checked in 12th with a score of 391.75.  Weber's top score came on her sixth dive, an inward 1 ½ somersault tuck that was judged at 46.20.

On the men's 3-meter board, Liam Simmons placed 11th out of 19 divers with a score of 416.10.  Like Clayton, Simmons' best dive came on his last attempt, a forward 1 ½ somersault 2 twist free (5134D) that was judged at 45.00 with a 2.5 degree of difficulty.

Heath Ogawa of Lake Forest College was the winner on the men's 3-meter with a score of 536.60. He is coached by Denison diving alum, Nathan Lightman.

All five Denison divers will return to Wabash College on Saturday for the conclusion of the NCAA Division III Diving Regional.  The women's 3-meter will take place at 12 p.m. followed by the men's 1-meter at 4 p.m.
