GAMBIER, Ohio--The Denison Men's Tennis team traveled to Gambier, Ohio this past weekend to take part in the Kenyon Invitational. The Big Red squared off on the VandenBerg Courts against the likes of Ohio Wesleyan University, John Carroll University, Oberlin College, Case Western Reserve University, Carnegie Mellon University, and of course the hosts, Kenyon College. The Big Red came away with 28 total victories on the weekend with 19 coming in singles action and nine more in the doubles bracket.

In singles play, the Big Red had three players win all three of their matches. Jacob Dennen did not drop a single set, winning his flight by defeating Ben Gelfand (Kenyon) 6-3,6-2. Vlad Rotnov also won six straight set in route to winning his flight, capping his day in singles play by defeating teammate Mitchell Thai, 6-4,6-0 in an all-Denison final. Finally, Brian Weisberg won his flight, topping Josh Hsia (Case Western Reserve) 6-7, 6-4, 10-8.

Thai and Tyler Gargas each picked up two singles wins, going 2-1 for the weekend. Tai finished as the runner-up of his flight, and Gargas taking home third place, respectively.

In top flight play, Kevin Brown finished the weekend 1-2, topping Gustavo Garcia (John Carroll) in three sets, 6-4, 3-6, 10-5 to close his weekend in singles play. In flight two, James McDonald finished the tournament 1-1, eventually falling in the flight's semifinal matchup. McDonald opened his weekend by defeating Michael Liu (Kenyon) by default.

On the doubles courts, the Big Red picked up nine total wins, coming from five different pairs. McDonald and Thai took home third place in second flight play, defeating Rob Stroup and Siddarth Rajupet (Case Western Reserve) 8-2. Gargas and Patrick McGuigan finished as runners-up of their flight, falling in a hard-fought 8-6 result to Oludayo Areke and Zach Hennessey (Case Western Reserve). Rotnov and Weisberg picked up two wins, finishing third in their flight, capping their day by defeating Gustavo Garcia and Dillon O'Brien (John Carroll) in decisive fashion, 8-1. The fourth and final Denison pair to pick up two wins was that of Ryan Issa and Julian Janczak, taking home a fifth-place finish in their flight, defeating Tyler Cole and Andy Siciliano (John Carroll), 9-7.

The Big Red finished the weekend 29-20 in all competitions, good for a .592 winning percentage. The Big Red men are back in action Saturday, Sept. 16 and Sunday, Sept. 17 as they travel to Oberlin, Ohio to compete in the Oberlin Invitational.
