CREVE COEUR, Mo. -- Denison men's tennis opened their trip to the Show-Me State on Friday evening, taking an 8-1 victory from the Spartans of Missouri Baptist University at the Creve Coeur Racket Club.

Doubles play started out with a bang for the Big Red as the No. 1 pairing of Kevin Brown and Blake Burstein tallied a 6-4 win over James Tobin and Ricardo Martin. The Spartans were able to counter in No. 2 doubles when Lucas Lobao and Dylan Walker defeated Mitchell Thai and Jamie McDonald by the same score, 6-4, but the final doubles match belonged to DU as Vlad Rotnov and Patrick McGuigan took down Don Kern and James Wright, 6-3.

Entering singles play with a 2-1 advantage, the Big Red ripped off six-straight wins led by Rotnov's 6-2, 6-0 win over Missouri Baptist's Tobin in No. 1 singles, and Thai's victory on the No. 2 court over Walker, 6-4, 6-2.

After McDonald defeated Lobao, 6-2, 7-6 in No. 3 play, Brown garnered a win in No. 4 singles over Martin with consecutive 6-1 set victories, and McGuigan got the best of the Spartans' Drew Davis in No. 5 singles with a 6-0, 6-1 win. Freshman Jacob Dennen rounded out the Big Red team win when he posted a pair of 6-2 set victories over Seth Grady in No. 6 singles.

Denison will return to the courts on Saturday, April 7 as they travel to the Kings Point Sports Club in Belleville, Ill. for a matchup with the nation's 10th ranked team, Washington University of St. Louis, at 1 p.m. central time.
