INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 2 seed Denison men's tennis team advanced to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship semifinals on Friday morning after sweeping No. 7 College of Wooster, 5-0, in quarterfinal play at the Wynne Tennis Center in Indianapolis, Ind.
The Big Red took control of the match in doubles play, led by the No. 1 pairing of Blake Burstein and Kevin Brown defeating Wooster's Titas Bera and Jesse DeWitt, 8-5. In No. 2 doubles, Jamie McDonald and Mitchell Thai improved to 12-4 on the season after they posted an 8-2 win over Nathan Devereux and Joaquin Abos Amo, while Vlad Rotnov and Brian Weisberg dominated the No. 3 court, defeating Andrew Long and Jorrit de Rouw, 8-1.
In singles play, DU swept all but one set to secure the team win as Patrick McGuigan tallied a 6-0, 6-1 defeat of Devereux in No. 4 singles, and John Purnode swept Wooster's Saeed Husain, 6-0, 6-0, in No. 6 play.
Advancing to the NCAC semifinal round on Saturday, April 28, Denison will return to Indianapolis for a 9 a.m. match with No. 6 Oberlin College.
