GRANVILLE, Ohio - No. 27 Denison men's tennis earned their first win of the dual season as they welcomed Rhodes College to Granville on Saturday and handed a 6-3 defeat to the Lynx at Mitchell Fieldhouse.

On the singles court, the nationally ranked Big Red won five of six matches, led by Mitchell Thai's 6-0, 6-2 victory over Phil Lauture in No. 2 play. In the No. 3 singles, Tim Cianciola answered with the same score against P.J. Shaw, while Kevin Brown earned a pair of 6-3 wins over Alex Lloyd in No. 4 action.

Denison also tallied wins in No. 5 and No. 6 when Patrick McGuigan defeated Andrew Morton, 6-4, 6-1, and Jacob Dennen handed a 6-2, 6-4 defeat to Sean Hogan in No. 6 play.

Looking for a clean sheet in singles, DU's top-flight competitor, Vlad Rotnov, took the first set 6-4 over nationally ranked Ritwik Chatterjee, but Chatterjee rebounded in the next two sets to win the match, 4-6, 7-6, 1-0.

The Big Red received their lone win in doubles play when Brian Weisberg and McGuigan teamed up in No. 3 doubles to defeat Sean Hogan and Alex Lloyd, 8-6. In No. 2 action, Cianciola and Thai fell to Lauture and Chatterjee, 8-6, and Brown and Blake Burstein lost No. 1 doubles to Shaw and Morton, 8-7.

Denison will return to action on Saturday, March 2 when they travel to Holland, Mich. for a 10 a.m. start with the Flying Dutch of Hope College.
