Men’s Tennis falls to Kenyon in top-30 matchup

GRANVILLE, Ohio – No. 26 Denison men's tennis suffered an 8-1 loss to No. 12 Kenyon College on Wednesday afternoon at the Denison Tennis Courts in Granville, Ohio.

Opening play on the doubles courts, the Lords took the first point of the match in No. 2 doubles when Nicholas Paolucci and Henry Barrett defeated Kevin Brown and Blake Burstein, 8-5. The Big Red followed with a victory in No. 1 doubles after Tim Cianciola and Mitchell Thai handed an 8-3 loss to Anatol Doroskevic and Pascal Lee, 8-3.

Kenyon entered singles play with a 2-1 advantage following Austin Diehl and Jacob Zalenski's third-flight win over Vlad Rotnov and Brian Weisberg, 8-3.

In singles action, the Big Red forced three sets in four of the six singles matches, most notably in No. 2 singles where Cianciola recovered from a 6-4 first set loss to win the second set over Diehl, 6-4. Diehl secured the match in the third set with a 6-2 victory.

In No. 5 and No. 6 singles, Patrick McGuigan and Weisberg each forced three-set matches after winning their second sets, 6-4, but the Lords swept the singles to take the match, 8-1.

The Big Red will stay at home on Saturday, April 6 when they host Oberlin College at 1 p.m.
