Men’s Tennis improves to 10-5 with sweep of DePauw

GRANVILLE, Ohio – No. 24 Denison men's tennis rounded out their North Coast Athletic Conference West Division schedule on Saturday with a 9-0 sweep of DePauw University at the Denison Tennis Courts in Granville, Ohio. The win boosted the Big Red to 10-5 overall and 4-0 in the NCAC West while the Tigers dropped to 7-9 and 1-1 in the conference division.

Denison took control of the match from the start in doubles play when Tim Cianciola and Mitchell Thai took the top flight with an 8-7 (7-5) tiebreaking victory over Greg Frauenheim and Bryce McClanahan. The senior duo of Kevin Brown and Blake Burstein continued the DU dominance in No. 2 play with an 8-6 defeat of Wyatt Metzger and Billy Louiselle. Vlad Rotnov and Brian Weisberg rounded out the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win over DePauw's Alex Bertolini and Will Sultan.

In singles play, Rotnov tallied back-to-back 6-3 victories in a top-flight win over Frauenheim, while Cianciola took No. 2 singles, 6-2, 6-3 from Metzger. After Thai won No. 3 play 6-1, 6-3, Brown outlasted Bertolini in the fourth flight to garner a 7-6 (9-7), 1-6, 10-0 victory in three sets.

Patrick McGuigan and Jacob Dennen secured victories on the No. 5 & No. 6 courts to round out the team win for the Big Red.

Prior to the start of the match, seniors Kevin Brown and Blake Burstein were recognized for their dedication to the men's tennis program and for their accomplishments while at Denison.

The Big Red will round out the regular season on Sunday, April 21 when they host No. 15 Carnegie Mellon for an 11 a.m. start.
