INDIANAPOLIS, Ind.-- The Denison men's tennis team defeated Wittenberg 5-1 in the quarterfinals of the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on Friday afternoon. With the win, Denison advances to the semifinals where they will face DePauw on Saturday (April 27) at 1 p.m.
Denison was led in singles play by victories from Tim Cianciola at No. 1, Kevin Brown at No. 3 and Mitchell Thai at No. 4. Cianciola defeated Martin Mora, 6-2, 6-3. Brown took down Joe Patton, 6-3, 6-3, and Thai dispatched Timmy McNulty, 6-0, 6-1.
The Big Red took a 2-1 lead into singles play thanks to doubles wins out of the second and third flight. Brown and Blake Burstein defeated Gavin Tay and McNulty, 8-2. At third doubles, John Purnode and Akshat Agarwal defeated Kieren Thomas and Patton, 8-2.
