CLEVELAND, Ohio – Denison men's tennis garnered five All-North Coast Athletic Conference selections on Friday morning, highlighted by freshman Tim Cianciola as the NCAC Newcomer of the Year.
Also named to the All-NCAC first-team, Cianciola enjoyed a rookie season to remember in Granville, posting an overall record of 19-4, including a 16-2 mark in dual match play in the spring. Totaling a 4-0 sweep in the NCAC West Division, Cianciola is Denison's third Newcomer of the Year in the last four years after Vlad Rotnov claimed the honor in 2018 and Kevin Brown in 2016.
Cianciola also earned all-conference first-team honors on the doubles court with teammate Mitchell Thai. Competing primarily as DU's No. 1 duo, Cianciola and Thai finished the year at 18-10 overall and 12-7 in the spring, including a 10-5 mark in the top flight. Thai was also recognized in singles play, claiming honorable mention status following a 10-9 record during the dual season and a 4-0 mark against the NCAC West.
Named the conference's Newcomer of the Year in 2018, Rotnov returned as a first-team selection this season. Posting an overall record of 13-11, the Solon, Ohio native went 8-6 in the top-flight and 4-0 against the NCAC West.
Brown and Blake Burstein rounded out Denison's all-conference selections as they garnered second-team honors on the doubles court. Recognized as the NCAC Doubles Team of the Year in 2017, Brown and Burstein posted an overall record of 16-9 while going 11-7 in dual match play.
The Big Red wrapped up the 2018-19 season with an overall record of 12-7 overall while advancing to the NCAC Championship match for the second-straight year.
