Sophomore Alex Chappars (Xenia, Ohio/Bellbrook) won the 5,000-meter run as the Denison men's indoor track and field team finished ninth at the Capital University Invitational on Saturday. The Big Red finished the event with 35 points.
Chappars finished the event in 15:41.72. Junior Daniel Doggett (Byfield, Mass./The Governor's Academy) took fifth after scaling the 5K course in 16:31.17. A trio of DU runners scored in the 800-meter run. Rookie Chad Kosanovich (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) place second with a time of 2:00.95, while Todd Johnson (St. Charles, Ill./St. Charles) and Joe Thackery (Springboro, Ohio/Springboro) finished 7th (2:04.40) and 8th (2:04.58), respectively. Rounding out the scoring for Denison was junior Alphonse Harris (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore), who took sixth in the 3,000 with a mark of 9:16.51.
The Big Red returns to competition on Friday (Feb. 26) when they host the Last Chance Meet at the Mitchell Center in Granville, Ohio.
