The Denison Big Red hosted the DU Last Chance Meet, the final tune-up for the 2013 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship, on Friday night at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.
The Big Red capped off the night with a victory in the 4x400 relay. The foursome of Sam Posniewski, Ian Mulmat, Mitch Keller and Jon Brachna finished the race in 3:32.68, while teammates Ryan Keller, Ivan Hall, Stephen Czujko and Corey Black took second after crossing the line in 3:37.10.
The Keller twins, Posniewski, Black and Brachna also enjoyed success in the 800-meter run, occupying spots two through six. Mitch took second after clocking in at 2:00.45, while Posniewski was right behind him with a time of 2:00.63. Black placed fourth (2:01.62), while Brachna (2:02.17) and Ryan Keller (2:03.46) rounded out the top-6.
Freshmen Quenton Richards and Jordan Patterson posted strong finishes in the 200 and 60-meter events. Patterson finished second in the 200 and was fifth in the 60 with times of 22.96 and 7.27, respectively. Richards took third in the 60 after clocking in at 7.22 and logged an eighth-place finish in the 200 (24.06). Also finishing in the top eight in the 60 was senior Joe Nichols. Nichols crossed the line in 7.38, person best time.
John Williamson, Brian Myers and Jacob Ott also had success in the distance races. Williamson finished the 3,000 in 9:21.87, landing him in fifth place, while Myers time of 9:28.18 was good enough for eighth. In the mile, Ott took seventh after crossing the finish line in 4:33.01.
The 4x200 relay team of Richards, Brachna, Posniewski and Patterson combined for a time of 1:34.04. After posting the second-best time in school history earlier this year, the DU foursome now also owns the seventh-best performance in program history.
In the field events, Richards took second in the high jump after clearing 5-08.00, while Nichols' leap of 19-02.75 landed him in third place. Andy Shaw paced DU in the shot put with a heave of 39-05.75 en route to a third-place finish. John Bute took fourth with a toss of 37-08.00, while Ian Weijer was seventh (33-03.00). Weijer also took sixth in the weight throw with a toss of 30-05.00).
Denison returns to action next Friday at the annual NCAC Championship event hosted by The College of Wooster. Friday's festivities begin at 1:30 p.m., while Saturday's events are slated to begin at 10:30 a.m.
