Quenton Richards broke the school-record in the 60-meter dash on Saturday.

Sophomore Quenton Richards led Denison at Saturday's Capital University Purple & White Invitational with a school-record performance in the 60-meter dash.

Richards wasted no time passing the school-record mark set by Chris Roth in 2012.  In the preliminaries of the 60-meter event, Richards edged Roth's time of 7.12 by two thousandths of a second.  His time of 7.10 won the prelims, securing a spot in the finals of the event.  The DU sophomore went on to win the finals in impressive fashion.  Richards once again rewrote the record books with a time of 7.02, moving one tenth of a second past the former school mark.  Prior to Saturday's performance, Richards boasted a personal-best time of 7.18 in the 60-meter dash.

In addition to Richards' victory, Denison captured three other event titles. Senior Jon Brachna won the 600-meter run with a time of 1:25.58, while freshman Michael Bonebrake took seventh in the event after clocking in at 1:30.88.  Sophomore Wallace Branche picked up a victory in the triple jump with a combined leap of 44'6.75", while freshman Edward Bailey III won the high jump after clearing 5'10". Bailey also took fourth in the long jump after recording a distance of 20'1.00".

In addition to winning the triple jump, Branche also took third in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles with a time of 9.02.  Freshman Ethan George finished fifth in the event after crossing the finish line in 9.85.  Both runners posted faster times in prelims.  Branche took second in preliminaries with a time of 8.94, while George's prelim time of 9.78 ranks him second on the school's list of top performances.

Senior John Bute posted a pair of top-6 finishes.  Bute took fifth in the shot put with a heave of 39'4.50", while his toss of 38'4.00" in the weight throw landed him in sixth place.  The Big Red also had two top-3 finishes in the relay events.  The 4x200 team of Richards, George, Trent Babb and Brachna finished runner-up with a time of 1:35.96.  The 4x400 relay comprised of Brachna, Ivan Hall, Bonebrake and Branche took third after crossing the line in 3:37.80.

Denison returns to competition on Jan. 25, 2014 when they host the annual Denison Lid-Lifter at the Mitchell Fieldhouse in Granville, Ohio.  Events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
