Denison runs at Kenyon, Jesse Owens

The Big Red men's track & field team competed in split squad action on Saturday with some athletes participating at the Jesse Owens Track Classic hosted by The Ohio State University and others running at the Kenyon Invitational in Gambier, Ohio.

In Columbus at the Jesse Owens Classic, DU sent three athletes to complete with athletes from all three NCAA division and NAIA athletes.  Friday night, senior Chad Kosanovich finished 12th in the 1500-meter run with a time of 3:57.50.  Kosanovich was the only Division III runner in the 51-man field.

On Saturday afternoon, senior Dimonde Hale and freshman Wallace Branche took to the track.  Branche placed 12th in the triple jump with a leap of 44-06.75.  The rookie was one of two Division III athletes in the 17-person field.  In the 400-meter dash, Hale took 35th after clocking in at 51.45.

At Saturday's Kenyon Invitational, the Big Red scored 44 points en route to a ninth-place finish on a windy day in Gambier.  Junior Jon Brachna paced Denison with a runner-up finish in the 800-meter event.  Brachna finished the race in 1:59.31.  Sophomore Jordan Dekel recorded a fourth-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 11:07.01.

Freshman Quenton Richards posted four top-8 finishes on Saturday in Gambier.  Richards took fourth and sixth in the 100 (11.37) and 200 (23.06), respectively.  The rookie placed seventh in the high jump after clearing 5'8".  Richards also anchored the 4x100 relay team that finished in fourth place.  Richards along with Jordan Patterson, Brachna and Ian Mulmat posted a time of 43.99.  In addition to his performance in the 4x100, Patterson also took sixth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.44.

Sophomore Andy Shaw posted a fifth-place finish in the discus with a toss of 128-8.25, while first-year Sam Beech was seventh in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 15:58.27.  The 4x400 relay team of Mulmat, Stephen Czujko, Ivan Hall and Steven Johnson rounded out the scoring for DU.  The foursome's time of 3:51.57 landed them in fifth place.

Denison will host the annual Big Red Invitational on Friday at Deeds Field-Piper Stadium.
