The Denison men's track & field team won four event titles at the Big Red Invitational held in Granville on Friday. The event served as the final meet before next weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship held at Ohio Wesleyan.
Junior sprinter Quenton Richards led the way with a pair of victories on Piper Stadium track. Richards took home the 100-meter dash title with a time of 11.14, while his time of 22.96 was the fastest in the 200-meter dash. Richards was also part of the third-place 4x100 relay team alongside Wallace Branche, Lucas Romick and Ian Mulmat.
After taking third as a member of the 4x100 foursome, Branche went on to win the triple jump with a final mark of 45'9". Freshman Deven Shakya was placed fourth in the event with a combined leap of 38'3.25".
The fourth and final victory of the night came in the 800-meter run where Mitch Keller recorded the fastest time at 1:58.29. Finishing right behind Keller in second and third place were freshmen Chris Todd and Zach Munn who crossed the line in 1:58.70 and 1:59.31, respectively. Zach Cove took sixth in the event (1:59.85).
In the 3,000-meter event, three different athletes recorded personal records and made significant marks on the all-time performer's list. Sophomore Jake Dennie led the way with a second-place finish after registering a personal-best time of 9:00.27. That time was an almost 11.50 second improvement from his previous PR and moved him into third on the school's list. Junior Sam Beech followed in third place with a personal-record time of 9:02.63, moving him into third on DU's top performer's list. Sophomore Patrick Dunn was fifth with a time of 9:15.00 that landed him seventh on Denison's list. Drake Lohnes was sixth in event with at time of 9:19.35.
Rounding out the top individual performances were Bryan Fowler and Ryan Keller. Fowler was runner up in the javelin with a toss of 149'5". Keller took fifth in the 400 hurdles after crossing the finish line in 1:00.55.
Denison capped off the event with a pair of top-3 finishes in the 4x400 relay. The Keller twins, Todd and Romick took second in the event with a time of 3:29.17. The foursome of Mulmat, Cove, Munn and Michael Bonebrake placed third, checking in at 3:36.37.
The Big Red returns to competition next weekend at the 2015 NCAC Tournament. Friday's field events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m., while the running events will kick off at 3 p.m.
