The Denison men's track and field team opened up the weekend at the VertKlasse Meeting at High Point University in High Point, N.C.
Junior Drake Lohnes opened the running events with a 17th-place finish in the 3,000-meter steeplechase. Lohnes completed the race in 10:31.45. Senior Bryan Fowler turned in the second-best finish, placing 21st in the javelin with a final mark of 160'9".
Junior Zach Cove led a quartet of DU runners in the 1500-meter run. Cove took second in his heat and 28th in the 98-man field with a time of 4:07.76. Freshman Niall Clancey posted the second-fastest Big Red time at 4:09.83, while Zach Munn and Patrick Dunn finished in 4:20.49 and 4:20.97, respectively.
Junior Jake Dennie finished 35th out of 65 athletes in the 5,000 run after clocking in at 15:55.66. Freshman Jorge De La Torre turned in a time of 16:37.40 en route to a 49th-place finish, while Jeremy Bloomfield was 51st after crossing the line in 16:38.66.
Denison will close out competition at the VerkKlasse Meeting on Saturday. Events are scheduled to begin at 9 a.m.
