The Denison Big Red Invitational served as the final tune-up before next weekend's North Coast Athletic Conference Championship that will be held at Denison University in Granville, Ohio.
On Friday, the men posted nine top-3 performances which included five event titles. Senior Bryan Fowler, junior Zach Cove and freshman David Carter registered the three individual victories, while DU also swept the two relay events. Fowler turned in a personal-record performance in the javelin with a winning mark of 178'8", which bested his previous PR by 10 inches.
Cove won the 800-meter event with a time of 1:57.34, while sophomore teammate Zach Munn took third at 1:58.20. Carter took home victory in the triple jump with a combined leap of 44'11". The freshman also finished third in the long jump with a final mark of 19'8".
The 4x100 relay team of Carter, Michael Bonebrake, Lucas Romick and Quenton Richards combined for a winning time of 44.08 in the first running event of the afternoon. In the final race of the night, the foursome of Mitch Keller, Ryan Keller, Cove and Munn finished first in the 4x400 relay after clocking in at 3:31.54.
In addition to running the anchor leg of the 4x100 relay, Richards was also runner-up in the 100-meter dash (11.59) and took fourth in the 200 (23.90). Junior Jake Dennie provided the Big Red's final top-3 finish with his second-place showing in the 3,000-meter run. Dennie completed the event in 9:00.93).
The Big Red will be back in action at next weekend's NCAC Championship Meet. The two-day event begins on Friday and will run through Saturday.
