GRANVILLE, Ohio – Behind three victories and sixth top-three finishes, the Big Red took third at the annual Denison Lid-Lifter on Saturday after compiling 75 points.

Denison's first big push on the scoreboard came in the mile where they occupied the top three slots. Sophomore Niall Clancey led the DU trio after posting a winning time of 4:38.54. Senior Zach Cove was right behind in second, crossing the line in 4:39.82. Freshman Ben Foster took third with a final time of 4:41.26.

Sophomore All-American David Carter picked up the Big Red's second victory of the day after winning the triple jump. Carter posted the winning mark of 44'2" with his first attempt of the day. The third-and-final win came in the final event of the meet, the distance medley relay. The foursome of Clancey, Zach Munn, Cove and Foster combined for a winning time of 11:09.52. Individually, Munn also finished sixth in the 800 with a time of 2:06.16.

The highlight performance of the day came from freshman thrower Bryce Stricker who set a new school record in the weight throw with a toss of 43'5.75". In just his 10th competitive attempt in the weight throw, Stricker surpassed the five-year-old school record by 9.50" with a mark of 43'3".  One attempt later, the freshman re-set his own new record with a 2.75" improvement. Stricker's second-place mark bested his PR by 3'9.75". In addition to finishing runner-up in the weight throw, he also took fifth in the shot put (43'1.50").

Like the mile, Denison also had three runners score in the 3,000-meter event. Sophomore Jack Marchetti led the way with a fourth-place finish after crossing the line in 9:33.32. Senior Patrick Dunn followed in sixth at 9:34.68, while freshman Clayton Watters took eighth after clocking in at 9:39.63.

Freshmen Trevor Schoenman and Jake Coplin provided scoring in the pole vault and long jump, respectively. Schoenman successfully cleared 11'11.75" en route to finishing seventh, while Coplin took eighth with a leap of 19'10.25". The 4x400 relay team of Isaac Andrews, Jack Ruddy, Ben Gibbs and Kenny Connelly also added to DU's total with a fifth-place finish. The foursome clocked in with a time of 3:44.32.

Division II West Virginia Wesleyan won the event with 125. Wittenberg finished second with 78 points, three tallies ahead of the host Big Red. Mount Vernon Nazarene was fourth with 70 points, while California (Pa.) rounded out the top five with 65 points.

The Big Red returns to action next Saturday (Jan. 28) when they travel to the College of Wooster for the Fighting Scots Invitational. Events are scheduled to begin at 12 p.m.
