DELAWARE, Ohio -- Sophomore David Carter and freshman Ivan Maldonado both picked up victories as the Big Red finished sixth at the annual Marv Frye Invitational held on the campus of Ohio Wesleyan University on Saturday.

Maldonado and senior Drake Lohnes occupied the top-two spots in the javelin with a pair of personal-best performances. The freshman's winning mark of 177'1" bested his previous PR by 9'5" which moved him into third place on the Big Red's top performers list. Lohnes finished runner up with a toss of 156'2" which was a five-inch improvement on his career-best. The senior currently sits in seventh place on top performer's list. Carter took home the triple jump title with a combined leap of 45'0.25". The sophomore's winning mark came in his fourth attempt of the day. Sophomore Isaac Reed placed sixth in the event with a mark of 40'0.75".

Freshman Bryce Stricker also had a personal-best meet, posting PRs in both the shot put and hammer throw on Friday night. Last night, Stricker re-set his own school record in the hammer throw with a toss of 144'3". That mark topped the old school record by 3'1" and earned him seventh place in the event. Later that night, he posted a personal record in the shot put with a heave of 44'0.75". That distance surpassed his previous PR by 5.75" and landed him in third place overall.

Freshman Isaac Andrews took sixth in the 400-meter event with a final time of 51.09. He was also part of the sixth-place 4x100 relay team alongside Carter, Michael Bonebrake and Alex Chin. That grouping posted a time of 44.66. In the 4x400 relay, Bonebrake, Jack Ruddy, Zach Munn and Niall Clancey placed sixth after completing the race in 3:30.93.

Division II Mount Vernon Nazarene won the men's title with 108.5 points, narrowly edging second-place Case Western Reserve (106). The host Bishops finished third with 105 tallies, while Heidelberg (83) and Ohio Northern (77) finished just ahead of the Big Red (49).

Denison will return to Delaware next weekend for the annual Division III All-Ohio Championship hosted by Ohio Wesleyan. Field events are scheduled to begin at 11:30 a.m., while the first running event is slated to start at 12 p.m.
