GRANVILLE, Ohio -- The Denison men's track and field team picked up five event titles at the rain-shortened Denison Big Red Invitational on Friday. The meet was called to an end after the women's 400 hurdles due to lightening and rain in the nearby area.

Four different athletes helped combined for DU's five victories, highlighted by David Carter's two-win performance. Carter opened his day by winning the long jump with a final mark of 20'3.50".  The sophomore returned to the pit shortly after and earned his second victory, this time in the triple jump with a combined leap of 44'0.50". Freshman Jake Coplin placed fifth in the long jump with a mark of 19'6.75").

Another one of Denison's wins came outside the confines of Piper Stadium. Freshman Ivan Maldonado continued his strong performance in the javelin, posting a top heave of 172'11". That mark paced a quartet of Big Red athletes that occupied four of the top-five spots in the event. Senior Drake Lohnes was third overall with a personal-best performance of 158'7", topping his previous PR by 2'5". James Dixie was in fourth at 151'4", while Church Humphreys followed in fifth (150'2"). Dixie's performance was good enough to move him into ninth on the top performer's list. The freshman also placed third in the triple jump with a combined mark of 41'10".

Zach Munn and Jack Ruddy collected the Big Red's final two victories on the day. Munn took home the 800-meter title with a final time of 1:58.54. Freshman Kenny Connelly followed in fifth with a time of 2:04.24. Ruddy won the 400 hurdles after breaking the tape in 56.98. That time moved the freshman into 10th place on the top performers list.

Freshman Bryce Stricker turned in a pair of top-three performances. Stricker finished runner-up in the hammer throw with a final mark of 146'9". He followed that up with a third-place showing in the shot put (43'6"). Isaac Reed also had two top-five finishes. Reed's day was highlighted with a second-place finish in the triple jump, turning in a combined leap of 42'2.75". He also placed fifth in the 110 hurdles after crossing the line in 16.01.

Denison finished 3-4-5 in the 1500-meter run, led by senior Zach Cove who checked in at 4:05.96. Sophomore Niall Clancey and senior Patrick Dunn followed in times of 4:07.19 and 4:09.03, respectively. Senior Michael Bonebrake had a fourth-place showing in the 400-meter dash, crossing the line in 52.23. Bonebrake was also part of a second-place performance alongside Ruddy, Isaac Andrews and Alex Chin. The DU foursome finished the 4x100 relay with a time of 44.57.

The Big Red will be back in action next weekend (May 5-6) when they travel Greencastle, Ind. for the 2017 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championships.
