NEW ORLEANS – Denison men's track & field was recognized by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) on Sunday with the selection of freshman Esteban Sainz to the All-Great Lakes Region team.
Primarily competing in the javelin throw for the Big Red, Sainz secured five, top-three finishes in the event during the outdoor season. Led by a pair of individual victories, Sainz' best performance of the year came at the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Outdoor Championship where the freshman won the first NCAC title of his career with a personal-best throw of 189'6" (57.77 meters). Sainz currently holds the second longest personal record in program history, falling just three inches shy of Steve Gallego at 189'9" (2009).
He also claimed an individual title in the javelin at OWU's Marv Frye Invitational where he reached 160'8" (48.97 meters).
Sainz and the Big Red rounded out the 2019 outdoor season with a trio of top-three finishes, including a dual meet victory against Wooster on April 10.
