Denison senior Dee Salukombo took second-place at the 57th Annual Division III All-Ohio Championship on Friday afternoon from the Elvin R. King Cross Country Course in Cedarville, Ohio.
Salukombo covered the 8K course in 25:18.24. The two-time Division III All-Ohio champion was dethroned by Franciscan University's Bill Jones, who crossed the line in 25:15.74. In the overall standings, Salukombo finished sixth out of 310 runners, marking his best finish at the All-Ohio Championship meet. Overall, 45 teams compete at the All-Ohio Championship, spanning all three division of the NCAA and the NAIA. The Big Red took 24th in the overall standings.
Trailing Salukombo in the Division III standings were fellow seniors Alexander Chappars and Chris Dunn. Chappars clocked in at 26:44.62 and finished in 14th place for the second-straight year. Dunn took 79th with a time of 28:11.24. Junior Steven Johnson checked in at 28:26.10, while sophomore Stephen Stitcher rounded out the DU scoring with a time of 28:48.28. In the Division III team standings, Denison placed 12th out of 22 teams with 285 points.
The Big Red returns to action on Oct. 14 when they travel to Wilmington, Ohio to compete in the Wilmington Invitational.
