SPRINGFIELD, Ohio--  The Big Red men's cross country team kicked off their 2017 campaign with a second place finish at the Wittenberg Invitational.  Four runners placed in the top-10, led by sophomore Benjamin Foster's sixth-place finish.  As a team, Denison totaled 45 points.  Earlham was the team champion with 31 points after placing all five scoring runners in the top-11.  Wittenberg finished third with 67 points, followed by Central State (116), Columbus State (117) and Wilberforce (176).

For Denison, Foster's time of 16:59.4 was good enough to top his teammates, Jack Marchetti and Clayton Watters by just over 10 seconds.  Marchetti finished seventh in 17:09.0 and Watters took eighth in 17:11.9.  Zach Munn locked up 10th place with his time of 17:22.2, besting Earlham's Oliver Daniel by four seconds.

Denison's fifth and final scorer was Kenny Connelly who finished 14th in 17:38.9.  Also running for DU was Adam Cromwell (21st – 18:02.5), Jeremy Bloomfield (22nd – 18:07.1) and Henri Hegemier (41st – 20:36.6).

The Big Red returns to action next Saturday, Sept. 9 when they compete at the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational in Delaware, Ohio.
