Big Red men begin season in third place at Grizzly Invite

SHELBYVILLE, Ind. – Denison men's cross country opened their 2018 campaign on a high note after placing third overall at Franklin College's Sodexo Grizzly Invite men's 8k race at the Blue River Cross Country course in Shelbyville, Ind. DU's team score of 89 fell just short of Mount Union in second place, who finished with a score of 84. Albion College finished as the overall champion, tallying 35 points and three of the top 10 finishers.

Speaking of top 10 finishers, the Big Red were led by senior Niall Clancey in fourth-place out of 129 runners with a time of 27:14.50. Sophomore Adam Cromwell finished just 15.10 seconds behind his teammate in sixth-place, after logging a 27:29.60.

Finishing just 10 spots behind Cromwell was junior Clayton Watters, thanks to a 27:58.00 in 16th place. Rounding out the DU scoring was senior Jack Marchetti in 32nd place (29:01.30) and freshman Calvin Riley with a time of 29:27.00 in 45th.

Also placing for the Big Red were Keanan Ginell in 61st (30:21.00), Rhys Fitschen-Brown in 72nd (30:52.30), Kenny Connelly in 77th (31:08.00), Zackary Johnston in 82nd (31:16.40), and Henri Hegemier in 106th (33:42.50).

Denison will take two weeks off before returning to the course on Saturday, September 15 when they head to Wheaton, Illinois for the 2018 Gil Dodds Invitational held at Wheaton College.
