NEW ORLEANS, La. – Following a third-place finish at the Sodexo Grizzly Invite 8k race on September 1, Denison men's cross country has entered the most recent United States Track and Field Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) regional rankings as the seventh-best team in the Great Lakes region.

Leading the way in the region is Calvin College, who won the NCAA Division III Great Lakes Regional in 2017. The Knights are followed by Albion, Otterbein, Trine, Mount Union, DePauw. Rounding out the top 10 behind the Big Red are Ohio Northern, Case Western Reserve, and John Carroll.

The Big Red made their case for a regional ranking when they had three runners finish in the top-20 at Franklin College to open the season. After not competing during his junior year due to injury, senior Niall Clancey returned in a big way as he finished in fourth place out of 129 runners with a time of 27:14.50.

Sophomore Adam Cromwell also turned in an impressive first-week showing for DU, placing sixth overall after clocking in at 27:29.60, just 15.10 second behind Clancey. Also finishing in the top 20 was junior Clayton Watters with his time of 27:58 in 16th place, while Jack Marchetti placed 32nd (29:01.30) and Calvin Riley logged a time of 29:27 (45th).

Denison will look to improve on their regional ranking this Saturday, September 15 when they travel to Wheaton, Illinois for the 2018 Gil Dodds Invitational held at Wheaton College.
