Men's Cross Country competes against the nation's best

WHEATON, Ill.—The Denison men's cross country team posted a top-10 finish against a stacked field at the Gil Dodds Invitational hosted by Wheaton College. 

Denison entered the meet ranked seventh in the most recent Great Lakes Regional rankings and they faced an impressive field bolstered by the nation's top-ranked team (North Central), 7th ranked Washington-St. Louis, No. 22 University of Chicago and No. 22 Cornell College.

Wash. U. won the event by landing six runners in the top-eight of the overall standings.  The Bears took home the top spot with 19 points followed in second place by North Central with 61 points.

The Big Red placed 10th in the field of 17 teams and were led by senior Niall Clancey's 41st place finish and time of 26:25.9.  Adam Cromwell followed in 45th place with a time of 26:30.4. 

First-year Keanan Ginell placed 104th in 27:50.3 and Clayton Watters was fourth on the squad and 125th in the field of 245 by crossing the finish line in 28:15.8.

Rhys Fitschen-Brown was Denison's fifth scorer in 28:39.4 and slots six and seven were filled by Kenny Connelly (29:17.7) and Calvin Riley (29:33.1).

DU will compete in a dual meet on Thursday (Sept. 20) at Wooster. Their next invitational will be the All-Ohio Championship in Akron, Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 29.
