POWELL, Ohio – Thanks to a second-team All-NCAC finish from senior Niall Clancey and honorable mention recognition for Adam Cromwell, Denison men's cross country finished in sixth place at the 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship held at Liberty Park in Powell, Ohio. Totaling 150 team points for the day, the Big Red trailed fifth-place Oberlin by eight points (142) and finished 13 points ahead of seventh-place Ohio Wesleyan (163). Finishing with 37 team points, DePauw University earned their second-straight NCAC crown, led by the conference's individual champion, Paul Christian.
Competing alongside 97 other runners from across the conference, Clancey earned his spot as a second-team all-conference selection after leading the Big Red in eighth place overall with a time of 26:26.7, which was more than seven seconds better than Kenyon's Tommy Johnson in ninth place. This was also Clancey's best career time at the conference meet, blowing past his 27:19 in 40th place at the 2015 NCAC Championship.
Also earning All-NCAC honors for the Big Red, Cromwell placed 15th overall with a time of 26:50 while edging out Wooster's Brian Lief by 0.9 seconds for a top 15 finish. This was also Cromwell's top recorded time at the NCAC's, beating his previous best of 27:26.2 by more than 36 seconds.
Senior Jack Marchetti finished the 8k race in 27:43.5, good enough for 39th place, while Clayton Watters followed in 43rd place at 27:55.1 and Rhys Fitschen-Brown rounded out the team scoring in 57th place with a final time of 28:30.5.
Denison will return to the trail on Saturday, November 10 when they travel to Shelbyville, Ind. for the NCAA Great Lakes Regional meet held at Blue River Park.
