Secaras and Howell land NFCA All-Region accolades

GRANVILLE, Ohio--  The National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) announced its 2018 Division III All-Region softball teams on Wednesday. Denison University landed two players on the squads.  Senior first baseman Lauren Secaras earned second-team All-Central Region and junior infielder Amanda Howell received third-team accolades.

The 2018 North Coast Athletic Conference Player of the Year, Secaras leaves Denison as the NCAC's all-time leader in RBIs (143) and total bases (329).  She enjoyed a stellar year at the plate, batting .400 with eight home runs, 17 doubles and 38 RBIs.  She leaves DU with a career .408 batting average and is tied for the program record with 25 home runs.  Secaras also made 15 appearances in the circle, posting a 4-1 record with two saves and a 3.64 ERA.  This is her second-straight all-region appearance after a third-team nod in 2017.

Howell is making her debut on the all-region squad after hitting .357 with 14 doubles, four home runs and 36 RBIs.  She started all 36 games split between third base and designated player.  After missing all of 2017 with an injury, Howell returns to the all-region squad after a second-team nod as a first-year in 2016.

Denison went 26-10 overall and was 13-3 in NCAC play which was good enough for second place in the conference standings.
