GRANVILLE, Ohio -- A 6-2 run over the final 2:39 of overtime pushed the Hiram Terriers past the Big Red on Wednesday night at Livingston Gymnasium.

At four quarters of play, Denison and Hiram were deadlocked at 52-52. Following a scoreless two minutes of action, senior Emily Krumpe converted on one of two attempts at the foul line to give the home team a one-point lead. The Terriers' Kaylee Shockley answered with a layup on the ensuing possession, while a fastbreak layup by Mercedes Jones on Hiram's next trip down the floor extended the lead to 56-53.

Freshman Alison Schafer shrunk the deficit to one with a jumper at the 1:35 mark. After missing a potential go-ahead three, DU was forced to foul Dana Perrotta. Despite making both attempts, it remained a one-possession game with three seconds to play. Unfortunately, an errant pass fell into the arms of Jones as the final horn sound to send Hiram home with a win.

Denison led the entire first half of playing, building a 13-point lead a minute and a half into the second quarter following a Lauren Hofer layup. With 1:05 left in the second period, Krumpe knocked down a pair at the foul line to rebuild a 29-18 advantage. Hiram was able to generate a 15-3 run that turned their 11-point first-half deficit into a 33-32 lead with 3:11 left in the third quarter.

Krumpe put the Big Red back in front with two more free throws. After a Jordan Holmes takeaway, the Terrier bench received a technical foul which eventually resulted in a four-point possession for DU. Krumpe split a pair at the charity stripe, while Schafer drained a three-pointer off a pass from senior Erica Holmes. Denison carried a 38-35 lead into the fourth after Perrotta knocked down two foul shots for Hiram.

Schafer opened the fourth-period scoring with a triple off an assist from Krumpe. However, 12-2 surge by the Terriers gave them a 47-43 advantage with 4:29 left in regulation. Now trailing by three with two minutes to play, Erica Holmes took a cross-court pass from Gabrielle Nottage and drilled three to tie the contest at 50-50. Jones and Krumpe exchanged jumpers to set the score at 52-52 at the end of regulation.

DU shot 32 percent (21-for-65) from the field but held a 53-38 advantage on the glass. Hiram converted 30 percent (18-for-61) from the floor while also connecting on 18-of-22 (82 percent) at the charity stripe.

Krumpe led all scorers with 14 points, while Schafer added 13 tallies, seven rebounds and four assists. Jordan Holmes grabbed 17 rebounds and blocked eight shots to go along with seven points. Senior Gaby Mehringer also had eight points, five boards and three assists.

Jones led a quartet of Hiram players that scored in double figures with 12 tallies. Perrotta and Allison Vannoy added 11 apiece, while Shockley had 10. Kayla Yost pulled down 12 rebounds.

Denison closes out the regular season with a 12-13 record and a 9-7 North Coast Athletic Conference mark. The Terriers improve to 16-8 overall and 8-7 in the conference.

The Big Red will return to action next Tuesday in the quarterfinal round of the 2017 NCAC Tournament. Location, opponent and time will be determined at the conclusion of the regular season.
