OBERLIN, Ohio -- Juniors Alison Schafer (27) and Lauren Longbrake (22) posted a pair of career-highs as Denison women's basketball earned a 73-50 victory over the Oberlin College Yeowomen on Monday night at Philips Gymnasium in Oberlin, Ohio.

Highlighted by a 48.2 percent shooting effort on the night, the Big Red tallied 26 of their 33 first-half points in the paint and took control during the first quarter when they shot 8-of-12 from the field and jumped out to an early 19-10 advantage behind 10 points from Schafer.

Following Schafer's performance in the opening frame, Longbrake scored the first bucket of the second quarter for DU and finished the period with eight total points as the Big Red took a 33-22 lead into halftime.

Carrying an 11 point lead at the break, the Yeowomen cut into the Big Red lead with the first four points of the second half and a layup from Mackenzie Michaels as Oberlin dropped their deficit to eight, 38-30, with less than seven minutes to play in the third quarter.

Despite the offensive effort from Oberlin, the Big Red used the next two minutes of play to turn in a 9-0 scoring run led by baskets from Schafer, Longbrake, and fellow junior Aliyah Hunter to increase their lead to 17, 47-30, halfway through the third.

Six combined points from Sammy Spanier and Olivia Canning cut Denison's lead back to 12, 48-36, with 2:37 to play in the period, but the Big Red ended the frame on a 7-0 run, including the final six points from Longbrake, as DU entered the fourth with a 19-point advantage, 55-36.

After Schafer opened the final frame with five consecutive points, layups from Longbrake and Lauren Turner helped Denison build their largest lead of the night to 26 points, 65-39, with 6:51 remaining in the game. Followed by a pair of free throws from freshman Isa Contreras and baskets from Lauren Hofer and Lily Morris, the Big Red earned their second NCAC win of the season as they improved to 4-5 overall and 2-2 in conference play. Oberlin fell to 5-4 on the season and 1-2 in the NCAC.

Schafer tallied her career-high 27 points on 10-of-16 shooting and 5-of-7 from the perimeter. She also added nine rebounds, three assists, and two steals. Longbrake followed with a career-best 22 points and chipped in six boards and three assists.

Valesha Province led the team with five assists, and Zyah Beal contributed a DU-best four steals.

Leah Ross led the Yeowomen with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting from three. Canning and Spanier trailed Ross with eight points each.

Winners in two of their last three games, the Big Red will stay on the road this Thursday, December 13 when they travel to Tiffin, Ohio for a 7 p.m. tip-off with Heidelberg Unversity.
