POWELL, Ohio – Denison women's golf currently holds a 20-stroke advantage as they take an early lead after the first round of the Ohio Wesleyan Invitational held at the Columbus Zoo's Safari Golf Club in Powell, Ohio. After shooting a combined score of 306 during the opening round, the Big Red leads a six-team field that is followed by Wooster in second place with a score of 326. Mount St. Joseph sits in third place at 327 and tournament host, OWU, ranks fourth overall at 328.

Led by five golfers in the top-six, senior Emmy Timberlake currently holds the tournament lead after shooting an even-par 72 during the first round of action. Timberlake's 72 ties a career-low that was last accomplished on Oct. 7, 2018 (Pat Clouse Invitational). Freshman Laine Hursh shot a first-round 77 to place third overall while junior Megan Wong opened the weekend with a 78 as she enters the final round tied for fourth.

Sophia Alexander and Julia Shafir each fired 79's during the opening round to land in a four-way tie for sixth place while Megan Munn ranks tied for 26th following an 88.

The Big Red will look to secure the tournament victory on Sunday, Sept. 8 when they return for the final round of the Ohio Wesleyan Fall Invitational.
