Women's Golf out in front at Dan Quayle Classic

DANVILLE, Ind. – Highlighted by the tournament lead from senior Emmy Timberlake, Denison women's golf currently sits in first place after the first round of action at the 2019 Dan Quayle Collegiate Classic hosted at the Twin Bridges Golf Club in Danville, Ind. Leading the way with a first-round score of 309, the Big Red is 11 strokes ahead of second-place Illinois Wesleyan (320) while Rhodes College followed by one stroke in third place at 321. Centre College ranks fourth overall (327) and tournament host DePauw sits in fifth (335).

Thanks to four golfers in the top-10 after the first day, Timberlake currently leads the 43-player field with a first-round 74 (+2), which comes two weeks after her first individual victory of the season at the OWU Fall Invitational.

Freshman Laine Hursh fired a five-over-par 77 on the first day to enter Sunday's final round in a tie for third. Sophia Alexander and Julia Shafir posted a pair of 79's as they sit in a three-way tie for eighth place, while Megan Munn rounded out DU's lineup with an 84 to tie for 17th.

The Big Red return to Twin Bridges on Sunday, Sept. 22 for the final round of action at the 2019 Dan Quayle Classic.
