Just as they did in Friday's season-opening win over Centre, Denison's offense got cooking early, scoring 11 of the game's first 12 goals en route to an 18-6 win over Millsaps in Danville, Ky. The Big Red improves to 2-0 with the win while Millsaps falls to 3-1. Today's match marked the first-ever meeting between Denison and Millsaps in women's lacrosse.
Sophomore Claire Ludlow scored three of the first six goals of the match for the Big Red. Her sharpshooting had her squad up 6-1 with 10:52 to play in the first half.
In the second half, DU would outscore Millsaps 7-4. Lizzy Pellicane and Hirschey would each score two goals in the second half to pace the scoring for Denison.
Hirschey finished with five goals and one assist off only six shot attempts. Ludlow followed with four goals and two assists. She also led the squad with six draw controls. Pellicane followed with a hat trick and two assists. Walsh tallied two scores and the remaining four goals were scored by Wright, Isabel Tumminello, Allen and Erin Keller.
Denison goalie Laura Van Horn posted four saves while playing all 60 minutes. The Big Red will not return to action until Sunday (March 15) when they take on Connecticut College in Clearwater, Fla.
