Goodspeed and Israel named IWLCA All-Americans

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Two members of the Denison women's lacrosse team earned All-American honors from the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) on Wednesday morning, securing third-team accolades for senior midfielder Leah Israel and junior defender Jane Goodspeed. These selections move Denison's impressive total to 28 All-Americans in program history.

Israel earns her first All-American selection following a senior season where she landed on the All-NCAC first-team and was named the North Coast Athletic Conference Midfielder of the Year and conference tournament MVP. The Bloomfield Hills, Michigan native set new career highs with 43 goals, 42 ground balls and 75 draw controls in 2018 while adding 14 assists and forcing 28 turnovers. The two-time IWLCA All-Great Lakes Region first-team selection leaves Denison ranked third all-time in career draw controls (183), and her 76 caused turnovers are fourth-most in program history.

Goodspeed also makes her IWLCA All-American debut after headlining a veteran defense that caused 14.15 turnovers per game (ranked 14th nationally) and totaled 27.30 ground balls per contest, good for seventh in Division III. Helping the Big Red set new single-season records in total groundballs (546) and caused turnovers (284), the NCAC Defensive Player of the Year led the Big Red with 70 GBs, 38 CTs, and 95 draw controls, all ranking in the top-three in the single-season record books at DU. A three-time All-NCAC and All-Great Lakes Region first-team honoree, Goodspeed is currently the program's all-time leader in caused turnovers with 99 for her career.

Finishing the season at 17-3 overall and 8-0 in the conference, the Big Red won the NCAC for the fifth-straight year and advanced to the round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament for the fourth time in school history. Denison's 17 wins broke the previous record of 16 set in 1992 when DU posted a perfect 16-0 record.
