GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Big Red tallied four goals in the first half as Denison women's soccer opened their North Coast Athletic Conference schedule with a 4-0 victory over Allegheny College on Saturday afternoon at Barclay-Thomsen Field in Granville.

Outshooting the Gators 26-6 for the match and 18-5 in the first half, the Big Red wasted no time in taking the early lead when freshman Liz Gilbert finished a shot from just inside the box for her fifth goal of the season and to give DU a 1-0 advantage in the ninth minute.

Less than forty seconds later, a play from Maggie Armstrong went off the hands of Allegheny's goalkeeper Maya Hackman right to the waiting possession of Claire Kolff who tallied her third goal of the season and put the Big Red in front 2-0 within the first ten minutes of action.

At 10:36 in the first half, a well-struck shot from Sam Haseltine just missed the net on a great one-handed save from AC's Hackman, but DU answered in the 21st minute when senior Madison Smith connected on a shot from 35 yards out to keep the momentum in Denison's favor and increased the lead to 3-0.

The Big Red dominance continued at the 29:37 mark when freshman Abby King scored the first goal of her collegiate career and sent Denison into the half with a 4-0 lead.

Despite an 8-1 shot advantage in the second half and five corner kicks compared to Allegheny's two, both sides went scoreless following intermission as the Big Red earned their first NCAC win of the season and improved to 5-2 overall.

In addition to their scoring efforts, King and Kolff led the match with four shots each, including two shots on goal. Smith followed with three shots and Haseltine, Kelly O'Neill, Logan Agin, and Riley Hammond each finished with two shots apiece.

Recording her third clean sheet of the season, freshman keeper Patil Tcholakian improved to 5-1 on the year after collecting four saves in 80:28 of action. Hackman played all 90 minutes in net for the Gators, finishing with eight saves.

The Big Red will return to action on Tuesday, September 25 when they travel to Cleveland, Ohio for a 7:30 p.m. contest with Case Western Reserve.
