GRANVILLE, Ohio—Denison won its third straight match and improved to 9-2-2 after a 1-0 victory over Thomas More on Wednesday night at Barclay-Thomsen Field.  The win closes out the regular season home schedule at 7-1-1.

Denison controlled possession and pace throughout the match but the breakthrough didn't occur until the 76th minute when Kelly O'Neill's shot from 15 yards hit the left post and bounced back into play where Claire Kolff was there to deposit her fifth goal of the season and her third game-winning goal in 2018.  The assist was O'Neill's first of the season and the first of her career.

The Saints managed only three shots on the night but two were on-goal.  Their best chance came in the 56th minute when Kristina Felix took a shot from the top of the 18 that was saved by Denison's Patil Tcholakian.

In the 64th minute, Denison nearly put a goal on the board when Meg Rogan's shot from 10-yards was saved with one hand by TMC keeper Maddy Kim.

Denison kept the pressure up and came very close to scoring just minutes after Rogan's shot.  The first came on a shot by Ariel Loevy from inside the penalty area that was saved by Kim.  Another shot by Rogan was snuffed out by Kim then Liz Gilbert found some space just side the box and let a shot fly on an open net that had to be cleared out in front of the goal by Abby Hutcheson.

That proved to be the final flurry until Kolff's game-winner seven minutes later.  Gilbert came within an eyelash of giving DU a 2-0 lead when her shot in the 80th minute hit the crossbar.

Denison held a 15-3 advantage in shots and an 8-1 lead in corner kicks.  Tcholakian finished with two saves while Kim posted six saves for Thomas More.  Gilbert led all players with four shots while Rogan and O'Neill followed with three apiece.

The win sets up a showdown at Wooster on Saturday (Oct. 20) at 12 p.m.  The Fighting Scots are in first place in the North Coast Athletic Conference with 15 points (5-1-0). Denison has 11 points and is 3-0-2.  The Big Red has three conference matches left against Wooster, Hiram and Ohio Wesleyan.
