GRANVILLE, Ohio – Denison women's swimming & diving suffered a 140-122 loss to Xavier University on Saturday afternoon at the Trumbull Aquatic Center in Granville, Ohio.
Totaling six event victories on the day and two 'B' cut times, the Big Red were led by junior All-America KT Kustritz who secured a pair of wins in the 100, logging a time of 1:02.19, and the 200 breaststroke (2:19.68). It was a repeat of the night before when Kustritz won both the 100 and 200 breaststroke in a tri-meet with Division I's Ohio State and Akron. Both marks also qualified as provisional qualifying times.
Hopkins went on to lead DU in the 50 free with a third-place finish and a time of 24.29, and then in the 100 fly in second place at 56.81. Morrison also logged a third-place finish in the 100 free (53.62) and landed in fifth place in the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:08.17.
First-year Grace Kacmarek earned three, top-five finishes on Saturday, highlighted by an individual victory in the 1,000 free, clocking in at 10:33.46. She was followed by Natalie Zaravella in second place (10:34.99) and Megan Balbo in sixth place (11:00.48). Kacmarek also landed behind Erica Hsu (2nd – 2:07.70) and Bridget Horton (4th – 2:08.54) in fifth place in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:08.88, and then placed fourth in the 400 IM (4:38.38) behind Zaravella who won the event in 4:34.59.
Denison's final individual victory of the day went to junior Hannah Rusinko who placed first overall in the 500 free, checking in at 5:09.30. She then led DU in the 200 free in third place with a time of 1:57.15. Logan Wickman followed in fourth place (1:57.67), and freshman Sophia Gaguzis in fifth (1:57.79).
Zoe Whelan placed second overall in the 200 fly with a time of 2:07.21. Kirby also earned a second place nod in the 100 backstroke after logging a 58.24.
Due to Xavier not having a diving program, diving was not apart of today's meet.
DU will return to the Trumbull Aquatic Center next Saturday, November 10 when they host NCAC-rival Kenyon College at 10 a.m.
