Big Red close dual meet season with win over OWU

DELAWARE, Ohio-- In their final tune-up prior to the North Coast Athletic Conference Championship on Feb. 13-16, Denison women's swimming & diving posted a 193-101 victory over Ohio Wesleyan on Saturday morning at the Meek Aquatics and Recreation Center. 

The Big Red won 13 events before the meet went to exhibition status with three events remaining.  Sophia Gaguzis won the 50 free in 25.45 and placed first in the 100 free with a time of 55.23.  

Annalise Cheshire swept both backstroke events and was a part of the winning 200 medley relay along with Olivia Swanson, Olivia Lantry, and Eili Wright. They touched in 1:51.25 to open the meet with a win.

Grace Kacmarek was a two-time winner in the 500 free (5:15.41) and the 300 free (3:03.07).  Lantry returned to win the 100 breast in 1:08.00. She also tied for first place in the 50 breaststroke with teammate Marie Lehman in 31.18 seconds.

Wright and Jess Spitzer went 1-2 in the 100 fly as Wright touched first in 59.35.  In the 200 free, Spencer Crawford held off Abby Fierstos to win the event in 2:00.92.

In diving, Naomi Clayton won the 3-meter event with a six-dive score of 282.20.  Allison Fitzgerald was second in 276.20.  Emma Weber (264.10) and Mattie Stauss (240.90) followed in third and fourth, respectively.

On the 1-meter board, Fitzgerald took home top honors with a score of 274.65.  Clayton was second (257.80) followed by Weber (251.03) and Stauss (241.05).

In exhibition swims, Wright posted a time of 26.94 in the 50 fly and Karly Noetzel touched in 1:01.90 in the 100 IM. 

Denison returns to action on Feb. 13 with the first of four days at the 2019 North Coast Athletic Conference Championship at the Trumbull Aquatics Center.
