INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- Denison women's tennis rounded out the start to their spring season on Sunday afternoon with a 6-1 loss to Division I Butler University at the Butler Athletics Bubble in Indianapolis.
The Big Red earned their lone team point in No. 6 singles play when sophomore Madeline Hart secured a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Butler's Carla O'Byrne.
In No. 2 action, senior Emma Alsup dropped the first set to Sarah Monesmith 6-0 but recovered for a 6-3 second set win to force a third-set tiebreaker. Despite Alsup's win in the second set, Monesmith captured the singles victory with a 6-3 win in the final set.
On the doubles courts, Denison's No. 1 pairing of Alsup and Lauren Hawley fell to Sara Linn and Emily Neal by a final score of 6-4. The Big Red found victory on the No. 2 court when Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola defeated Monesmith and Kendal Wilby 6-2 but then suffered a 6-1 defeat in No. 3 play when Hallie Leblebijian and Lauren Marx took down DU's Ashley Hammons and Megan Hickey.
Denison will return to the Mitchell Fieldhouse for their home debut on Sunday, Feb. 17 when they host Indiana University of Pennsylvania at 11 a.m.
