LAKE NONA, Fla.--  The Denison women's tennis team opened spring break play against Division II New Haven (Conn.) and the Big Red cruised to a 7-0 victory over the Chargers.

Division II rules were applied in this match, so the Big Red took home one point by sweeping doubles play.  The nationally-ranked duo of Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup defeated Stephanie Gonzalez and Nicole Mika, 6-1.  Madeline Hart and Devin Gramley topped Caitlyn Burridge and Nicole Calabrese, 6-0 and Denison's No. 2 doubles squad of Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola posted a 6-1 win over Lilia Rodriguez and Angela Mercurio.

In singles play, Denison posted six, straight-set winners led by Hawley and Alsup out of flights No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.  At No. 3 singles, Cash defeated Mika, 7-6 (7-4), 6-1.  Cianciola made short work of Burridge, 6-0, 6-1 while Megan Hickey and Ashley Hammons recorded wins out of the fifth and sixth flight, respectively.

Denison (5-2) is ranked No. 28 in NCAA Division III and is sixth in the most recent central region rankings.  The Big Red continues to play from the United States Tennis Association National Campus on Tuesday (March 19) when they take on Division I, Oral Roberts at 11:30 a.m.
