Denison women's tennis split a pair of matches on Thursday, defeating Wisconsin-Superior 9-0 in Orlando before travelling to Tampa where the Big Red fell to Hillsborough Community College, 9-0.
In the Big Red's 9-0 sweep of the Yellow Jackets, Denison started strong on the doubles courts, led by the top-flight pairing of Courtney Brown and Ashley Hammons. The combo took down Wisconsin-Superior's Megan Dulong and Maya Callaway, 8-2.
Hannah Bradvica and Devin Gramley followed in No. 2 singles with an 8-1 victory over Mariah Linder and Taylor Kane, while Lucy Deal and Morgan Arroyo rounded out the doubles sweep, defeating Alison Tollas and Olivia Roberts, 8-4.
In singles play, Hammons got the nod on the No. 1 court and turned in a 6-0, 6-0 straight-set over Dulong while Gramley handed a 6-0, 6-1 defeat to Tollas in No. 2 play.
The third flight saw Bradvica defeat Callaway 6-1, 6-2 before Natalie Overby tallied a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Emily Wald in No. 4 singles. Wins by Susan Biederstedt and Deal rounded out Denison's sweep of the Yellow Jackets.
Against Hillsborough, Denison dropped No. 1 doubles to begin the match when Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup fell to Hana Kvapilova and Shaylee Syme 8-1. Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola forced a tiebreaker in No. 2 doubles before falling to Valentina Dancenco and Lolita Kozina, 9-8 (7).
In singles play, Alsup rebounded from a 6-0 first-set loss to Dancenco in No. 2 singles with a 6-4 victory in the second set. Dancenco solidified the victory in the third set with a 7-5 win.
In No. 4 singles, Cianciola won the first set over Syme 6-0 but then lost in the final two sets, 6-1, 6-1.
The Big Red will round out their spring trip on Friday, March 22 when they take on No. 39 Wellesley College at the USTA National Campus in Lake Nona, Fla. The match is set to begin at 9:30 a.m.
