MADISON, Wis.--  In a clash of two nationally ranked squads, No. 16 Washington-St. Louis closed out the Midwest Invitational with a 6-3 win over 27th-ranked Denison.

The Big Red's nationally ranked doubles pair of Lauren Hawley and Emma Alsup defeated Lisa Chionis and Ally Persky, 8-5 to improve to 16-7 overall and 11-5 in dual matches this season.

Denison took a 2-1 lead into singles play after Alex Cash and Hannah Cianciola defeated Laurel Wanger and Ashley Lessen, 8-6 at second doubles.

In singles action, the Big Red could muster only one point as Hawley took down Persky in three sets, 3-6, 6-2, 11-9.  The match could have easily swung in Denison's favor had three different three-set matches gone their way.

Wash U picked up third-set wins at No. 2, No. 4 and No. 5 to lock up the victory.

With the loss, Denison drops to 9-8 while Washington-St. Louis moves to 6-9.  The Big Red returns to North Coast Athletic Conference play on Tuesday (April 9) when they travel to Wittenberg for a 4:30 p.m. start.
