Women’s Tennis kicks off fall season at Kenyon

GAMBIER, Ohio – Denison women's tennis opened their 2019 fall season this past weekend at the Kenyon College Invitational hosted in Gambier, Ohio.

On the doubles court, the Big Red earned a victory in the C flight when the freshmen duo of Izzy Hart and Monique Brual posted an 8-7 win over Carnegie Mellon's Lauren James and Ola Wojciak. The first-year combo captured the flight title thanks to an 8-4 victory over Nidhi Jha and Shreya Ramani of Case Western Reserve.

In Flight B, freshman Sydney Cianciola and Sarah Robertson teamed up to finish in third place following an 8-5 win over Kenyon's Anna Winslow and Ilana Blackwood.

Additionally, Hannah Cianciola and Alex Cash suffered a third-place match loss to CWRU's Madeleine Paolucci and Savannah Bright, 8-7, while Natalie Overby and Lucy Deal fell to Elena Prenovitz and Catriona MacIntosh of Kenyon, 8-2.

In singles action, Hannah Bradvica earned a second-place finish in the D flight after winning her first match over CWRU's Nina Hoog, 6-7, 6-2, 10-4, and then defeating Sofia Alonso from Kenyon, 6-3, 7-5. She eventually fell to KC's Megan Collins in the title match, 6-3, 6-2.

Competing in the same flight, Devin Gramley took third place following an opening 0-6, 6-1, 10-8 victory over CMU's Elizabeth Schulz. After suffering a loss to Collins, Gramley rebounded with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alonso to give DU two of the top three finishers in the flight.

Cash and Hart each reached the fifth-place match in the A and C flights, respectively, while Brual earned a seventh-place finish in the C flight with a 4-6, 7-6, 11-9 win over Kenyon's MacIntosh.

The Big Red return to action on Thursday, Sept. 19 when they travel to Kalamazoo, Mich. to compete in the four-day ITA Central Regional Championship Tournament hosted at Kalamazoo College.
