Denison women close out fall season at ITA Regionals

KALAMAZOO, Mich. – Denison women's tennis rounded out their 2019 fall season on Saturday with a combined five championship round victories at the ITA Division III Women's Central Regional Championship hosted at Kalamazoo College.

In doubles, freshmen Sydney Cianciola and Sarah Robertson reached the round of 16 following an 8-1 victory over Ysabel Gonzaga and Nina Pasquini of Elmhurst College. The first-year duo eventually fell to Kenyon's Daria Beshentseya and Erika Oku, 8-4, in the next round.

Monique Brual and Izzy Hart also advanced out of the round of 32 thanks to an 8-3 win over Paige Meyers and Claire Stechow from Wittenberg. The pair ended their run in the round of 16 following an 8-2 loss to Chicago's Hei Ching Claudia Ng and Perene Wang.

Hannah Cianciola and Alex Cash closed out DU's run to the Sweet 16, highlighted by an 8-2 opening-round victory over Tebatso Duba and Tyranny Miller of Lake Forest College.  A loss to North Central's Hannah Hougland and Alaina Kanthaphixay, 8-7 (5), in the next round ended DU's doubles competition.

On the singles court, Hannah and Sydney Cianciola each garnered a pair of victories in the round of 64, defeating Millikin's Brianna Barconi 6-0, 6-1 and Kalamazoo's Madalyn Winarski 6-2, 6-0, respectively. In the consolation bracket, Cash tallied four-consecutive victories, including a semifinal win over Robertson 6-4, 6-4, before falling to DePauw's Lillian Cameron in the consolation final in three sets, 4-6, 6-1, 10-7.
